When we look at the history of eyebrow transplantation, we can easily say that it forms the basis of today’s modern hair transplantation. Because, as you know, the first hair transplantation was applied in Japan in the 1930s, and this application consisted of eyebrow transplantation and eyelash transplantation.
Our eyebrows have an important role in protecting the eyes from above. In addition to this, our eyebrows, which are of great importance in terms of aesthetics, give meaning to our eyes and gaze. Our eyebrows, which also enable our mimics and speech to be interpreted correctly, act as a kind of auxiliary element in increasing the effect of our speech.
Eyebrow shedding can occur due to wounds, burns or bumps, as well as due to various diseases or genetically, there may be a lack of eyebrows. When the eyebrows, which are aesthetically important elements on our face, fall out, this can have many negative effects on the psychology of the person, regardless of gender.
Eyebrow transplantation offers a successful solution for eyebrow shedding and correcting eyebrows with significant deformities due to various reasons. Eyebrow transplantation, which is an easy, painless and comfortable operation, is also an application that can be performed for both women and men. We will also explain the issue of eyebrow transplantation in detail, but first, let’s give information about eyebrows.
Features of Eyebrow Hair
The core structure of the hair consists of keratin protein.
Eyebrow hair consists of two parts, like hair and hair of various lengths and thicknesses that cover our body.
Hair Body – It is the part outside the skin. It is covered with a thin oily layer and the bristle structure therefore looks smooth and shiny. Its maximum length can be up to 1-2 cm, it varies according to the age and physical characteristics of the person.
Hair Root – It is the part that remains in the inner part of the skin. Nourishing fat stores, connecting pathways with capillaries and various muscles and hair follicles are attached to the skin. Eyebrow root structure is slightly shorter-lived compared to hair. While the growth, waiting and shedding cycle of the hair can continue for years, the hair follicles that are plucked or shed do not start to grow new eyebrow hair after a certain period of time.
Although the structure of our eyebrows seems to be similar to the structure of hair, there are differences that distinguish them from each other. The most important of these are elongation rates and elongation limits. We all know that after our eyebrows reach a certain length, they do not continue to grow like hair. Eyebrow hairs are much thicker than hair hairs and hairs on other parts of the body, and they come out in a narrow angle with the skin surface.
The exit angles of the hair follicles are between 5 and 10 degrees on average.
In Which Situations Is Eyebrow Transplantation Necessary?
Genetic Structure: Some people’s eyebrow density is low from birth and they do not create the desired effect aesthetically. In such cases, which may occur due to familial predisposition and the person’s own physical characteristics, the person may prefer to have eyebrow transplantation.
Injury and burns: Especially injuries and burns cause the roots in the eyebrow area to be damaged and not to grow hair again. In cases where the eyebrow is blown as a result of hitting the eyebrow, fighting or other reasons, partial parts of the eyebrow are damaged and eyebrow deficiency occurs in that area. In such cases, eyebrow transplantation can be performed, although the situation is not regional but much larger and serious damage or burns can be done.
Various Diseases: Diseases such as aloe pes can cause regional loss of hair or eyebrows. In such cases, it may be appropriate to perform eyebrow transplantation with the recommendation of the doctor after the treatment.
Aesthetic Need: Today, eyebrow transplantation can be used for eyebrow shaping. These situations, which arise completely out of aesthetic need and desire, are an important savior in cases where the eyebrow shape is not satisfied and it is not possible to change the eyebrow shape with classical methods.
Eyebrow transplantation can give successful and natural results aesthetically than many other eyebrow shaping methods. Since these methods such as eyebrow removal, eyebrow tattooing, dyeing with the hair technique cannot replace a real hair, eyebrow transplantation is frequently preferred among people in recent years.
How Is Eyebrow Transplantation Performed?
Eyebrow transplantation is a much more sensitive but short-term operation compared to hair transplantation. The facial skin, which has a more sensitive structure compared to the scalp, requires microsurgical procedures. A procedure similar to hair transplantation is followed in eyebrow transplantation operations. Operations using the FUE Method are performed with hair follicles taken from the nape area. For an average eyebrow transplant, between 100 and 700 grafts can be transplanted. Graft is a structure that contains 2 to 5 hair follicles and some skin tissue, depending on its quality and structure. If the quality of the grafts is high, the number of grafts decreases and the operation can be completed in a shorter time.
On the day of the operation, the patient, who is ready after the necessary examinations, is placed on a stretcher face down. Grafts are collected from the nape area, which is anesthetized with local anesthesia. Thanks to a medical device called a micromotor FUE device or a manual punch, the loosened hair follicles are gathered into follicles. After this procedure, which can take 1-2 hours depending on the number of grafts, the nape area is sterilized and bandaged. Since the hair follicles taken from the nape area are taken one by one thanks to the FUE method, there is no scar in this area.
The collected grafts are separated one by one and placed in special pads and prepared for planting.
After the break, the patient, who is placed on his back, will not feel any pain or pain thanks to a small local anesthesia. After the eyebrow area is sterilized and anesthetized, channels suitable for the diameters of the individual hair follicles are opened on the planned area to be transplanted. In order for the canal angles to achieve the most natural appearance, they should make a narrow angle with your skin.
After the channel opening process is completed, it is time to place the grafts collected in the opened channels. This procedure is performed by the transplant team within an average of 1 hour, depending on the number of grafts.
Healing Process After Eyebrow Transplantation
Immediately after eyebrow transplantation, the operated area is left open and protected from all kinds of wounds, impacts and pressure. After the operation, which takes about 4 hours, the patient can easily return to his daily life, but it is important to protect the transplanted area. If a thin pain is felt in the transplanted area after the local anesthesia wears off after eyebrow transplantation, simple painkillers that your doctor will give beforehand will eliminate this pain. In addition, it is recommended to use antibiotics for 1 week against any microbes and complications that may develop in open wounds.
After 3 days, the doctor is visited again for the first washing and dressing. The nape area is opened and the first washing of the transplanted eyebrow area is performed. After this process, important details will be explained to you by the doctor for you to do the washing process.
Smoking and alcohol are not recommended for at least the first three days after the operation. You will be asked to stay away from heavy activities such as sports and activities that may pose a risk such as the sea for a while.
